Marmara is a village on the side of Vardousia (pronounced Vardoussia) mountains in central Greece. It is a destination for everyone seeking a getaway from city life. It is what a naturalist looks for. It is perfect for anyone seeking to do activities like rafting, riding a mountain bike in the forest, strolling into the forest among tall trees, walking paths and climbing cliffs and mountains. Hills are covered with forests of oak trees, deep valleys are full of plane trees and high above majestic mountains covered with fir trees end up to rocky peaks of steep cliffs. The area and the surrounding forest is a refuge for several kinds of wild animals. Everyone who enjoys hunting will love it as well. Many kinds of wild birds pass from there every year. There are many springs with cold water, waterfalls, streams and rivers with fishes. There are endless plains for the real wild nature lover to camp. You can taste local wine, tsipouro, honey, nuts, almonds, apples and many other fruits. Marmara taverns are famous for high quality meat all from local animals. If you go a bit exploring, you shall find interesting and even rare plants and animals in the forest. Marmara is also called Seliani. Marmara Seliani is near Lamia. It is part of the municipality of Spercheiada.
In winter the area is often covered with snow and the access to the village might be a challenge. In spring snow begins to melt. Birds are coming and the sky is blue more often. The time for trips to the country and extreme sports activities definitely has arrived!
Summer is magnificent up the mountains. You shall be amazed by the beautiful
landscapes that you will find there. Days are hot so it is ideal to visit the river Inachos and go for a pique nique there, or even bathe in the river's refreshing cool water. In the evening just pic a cliff or a high spot and enjoy the beautiful sunset, sitting by the trees at the edges of the deep forest. The night is cool and refreshing with a breeze hard to find anywhere else, but on the mountains of Greece during summer. |
